I am pleased to report The Lowchen Club August Show and
Weekend held at the Canine Academy Tollerton was an absolute resounding
success and enjoyed by all taking part.. Friday saw many of the Camping
fraternity arriving and a great deal of activity took place in the kitchen
and main hall. in preparation for the following day. The show opened
at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon and an entry of 51 dogs awaited
the Judge Howard Ogden Fortunately the weather stayed fine so he was
able to undertake his task in the large outside ring,. He awarded Best
Dog and BIS to Steve Brown’s Ch Rishkhan Kelly’s hero at
Shazzabas. Res Best Dog to Rose Godson’s Lansilk Moonseeker. In
Bitches it was Rose again with her newly crowned Ch Lansilk Moonspirit
taking Best Bitch and Res BIS, with Janet Edwards standing Res Best
Bitch with Beaulion Cerrys Best Puppy was Lorna Gunn’s Bigglesmere
Anise at Velmead and Res BP Anne Raines Leanzak Livin la Vida Loca The
Best Veteran was Lorna Gunn’s Ch Velmead Fennel at a youthful
nine and a half years .
On Sat evening over 50 people enjoyed a BBQ organised
and prepared by Committee Chef-ess Shona Grieve ably assisted by husband
Kev and other committee members. Kay Sergeant again provided her legendary
“Fruit” Punch which as they say “Went down a treat”
The evening entertainment took place indoors, in the form of a fun quiz,
highly disorganised by yours truly. Turned out FUN was the operative
word. John Richardson was Quizmaster General and presided in his inimitable
efficient and hilariously outrageous manner, Divided into aptly named
Teams the participants soon became embroiled in a spirited battle for
intellectual supremacy, not to mention completely disorderly and increasingly
raucous (could be Kay’s punch had some bearing!!!!) prizes were
awarded to the winning and runner up team, the evening closed with much
merriment and with everyone in agreement. It had indeed been a night
to remember.
Sunday dawned sunny and warm and activities were again
able to take place outside. A hands on assessment took place in the
morning and there seemed to be goodly number of people taking the exam
.The Raffle and Tombola tables looked to be doing well as did the catering
which had been coordinated over the whole weekend by Jo Turner and friend
Bev, and who quite frankly never seemed to stop working .Len Raines
and Steve Chapman were in charge of the afternoons events acting as
the highly efficient, if somewhat unorthodox at times Ring Stewards
It was lovely to see so many Affenpinscher and Havanese people joining
in the fun Show , after the pedigree classes there were some riotous
novelty classes, which entailed Stewards getting soaked to the skin
in the waterfall event. Dogs running out of the ring with sausages hanging
out of their mouths, boiled eggs flying through the air and the President
winning a brace class with THREE dogs. Need I go on? I really do feel
the officers and committee deserve a huge pat on the back for all the
effort and hard work they put into the weekend to make it a success
and a special Thankyou must go to all the non committee members who
gave of their time so willingly and of course to all the people who
supported so generously.
Eileen Spavin Harrison (President)
